2020.11.27 23:01 Bachman-Is-King 44[M4F] East Coast/Eastern PA - In ALL Honesty

I've seen so many posts and profiles that ask for honesty...so here is my unfiltered, brutal truth. Please enjoy. It pairs well with aged cheddar and a Guiness or dry red.
First some superficial things: I am looking for someone who is my version of attractive. That's not shaming anyone. I think everyone is beautiful in their own way and should never be ashamed of who they are, but for my own dating life my reptilian brain is attracted to a certain body type. I like she/her pronoun types who are between 5'1 and 5'6, who are in good shape or at least like to run and bike. Yes, oddly specific I know, but again brutal honesty here. I like runners/cyclists/triathletes but definitely with curves. I'm also attracted to gymnastics/ballet types as well. Yes. This will be controversial, but I am 44. I've dated plenty of women, and I know what I want physically in a partner.
Ok onto the non-superficial stuff...
On second thought...let's do superficial some more...
I like Friday the 13th movie marathons. I love the franchise and always have. I also love the Halloween franchise. I'm not necessarily looking for you to love those movies, but a Sunday sunggle on the couch with Friday the 13Th and Chinese takeout is kinda my jam....also so is Smuckers strawberry... I quote movies alot. Like alot alot. I do this dumb thing where I can run obsucre actors down to what movies they've been in. Six degrees of Kevin Bacon is a fun game. I quote TV shows too and I do this in regular conversation so it's always nice to have someone who can keep up with it. Though it's not necessarily a deal breaker.
On that note, I like women who are around my age. So like 35-48. It helps in pop culture situations. That said I have friends who are in their early 30's who can keep up just fine, so again, not a deal breaker as long as you are a good sport :)
Ok some things about me...
I'm about 5'10/5'11 depending on which medical chart you read. I have a shaved head with little hair. the hair I have is gray/salt&pepperish. In my younger days I was blonde. I have a sweet beard going right now for no-shave november. I try to keep a bit of a trimmed beard but not much. My hair grows in patches, so I have to tend it like a garden.
I drive a Subaru and have a dog named Bruce who splits time between me and his mom. We have a good co-dog-parenting relationship and we make it work. I mention Subaru because...I don't know...Subaru owners invoke a certain type in the mind's eye. Maybe it's just me.
I love comedy in all forms. TV, Movies, Standup. I loved Friends, Fresh Prince, and the Office. Big Bang, Seinfeld, Modern Family. If you think Angie Tribeca is hilarious then we will get along just fine! Movies: Dumb & Dumber, Austin Powers, Step Brothers, etc. CLUE: THE MOVIE is my second favorite movie ever so bonus points if you like that or if you have at least seen it or are interested in seeing it.
True crime: love it. All forms, and all relevant podcasts. Who's your favorite serial killer? Did Wayne Williams really murder all of the Atlanta children or just the two adult men he's serving time for? I devour true crime and I often go back to Serial just to get a fix.
Books: I read a lot of non-fiction. I love Stephen King though and the Jack Reach series. I've read Bleak House, Ulysses, and War&Peace cover to cover. I can go long or short, though short fiction is the better choice. Have you read Stephen King's short fiction? If not...stop here. Go read Bizarre of Bad Dreams. Then come back and discuss. Bonus if you like Edgar Allen Poe and his strange obsession with burying people alive.
What I'm looking for...
Don't be married or recently divorced (like don't say you just got divorced 3 months ago from an 8-year marriage and are now on Reddit looking for true love...I'm a hopeless romantic and I don't necessarily believe there are rules for how long you need to be separated from one relationship to start another, but this one comes from personal experience. So if you need a rebound...take up basketball.
I'm looking long term and I like text messages all day every day. like a continuous stream of consciousness. I like to talk on the phone, I like little love notes to each other, I like cooking together on a Wednesday night and cuddling on the couch.
Sex: Let's just get it out of the way. We're adults. We like sex. Who doesn't. I like a lot of it and you should too. Not anything too weird like where you send me pictures of you dangling by BDSM ropes over Cleveland, Ohio...you know who you are...and yes that is infidelity if your husband didn't know about it...just saying. But I yes, sex is very important and we should be having open, honest communication about it before, during, and after.
One last thing....If you're looking for the PERFECT relationship, you won't find it here. I am human and I am flawed. I've hurt people and people have hurt me. I've made mistakes and I have trauma that I want to share with you. I am perfectly imperfect. I'll accept all of your hurt and pain, and I hope you'll accept mine. What I will give you is complete honesty and vulnerability. That's me. All of me.
Oh and music...I love Billy Joel, Elton John, the Beatles, Guster, and many many more that we can discuss...
I'm going to stop here and save some for email messages....please send me a picture with your email and I'll send one back. I just like to know who I'm talking to. I don't expect your email to be this long, but let's make a connection! I love you all who read this entire rant. For a slightly shorter and funnier(or so I think) version, read my other post.
Cheers
Mark.

2020.11.26 15:51 Yosh1220 Slavemaster: Porn: Part 2

I am not a Christian but this verse describes what i am about to show you perfectly.
Thimoty 6: 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
In my last post I have talked about the scientific harms of porn in relation to addiction and depression, but porn is so much more and does so much more. I like to call it the gates of hell, once you get hooked into it and dont get out you will end up in a very bad place. In my last post i talked about how it numbs your brain and you have to watch more and harder stuff to feel any pleasure. This is a path that i want to explore further with you in this post.
Now to everyone whos watched porn on here, think about how your taste in porn was at the beggining and how it changed over time, did it get extremer? weirder? more hardcore? Maybe not for you but checking out other subs you can see numerous people saying that the more they watched the more twisted their taste got. Someone commented on the last post Slavemaster porn 1 that i am mistaking cause and action, that the people struggling with it are sick to begin with and thats why they started watching it in the first place. Now that doesnt make any sense because as i told you backed up with scientific evidence that Porn fits into the addiction framework and by watching it all you will sooner or later need to progress in the intensity of the material to get any rush out of it. So the argument that porn is good because it prevents those people from actually living out those fantasies, no its the opposite, most people only start to get twisted by their excessive consumption of porn. Now here is an example of something somewhat extreme, this of course doesnt apply to it but its a case of what can happen, this link shows the search results of user 927 Aol, leaked search historys, Here you can see how it starts out already a bit unnormal but in line and how with time his taste gets weirded and more twisted and finally illegal and deviant.
https://www.businessinsider.com/aol-user-927s-entire-sordid-search-log?r=DE&IR=T
Now some of you would say you cant make such claims only by checking out nofap subs or one extreme example, show us proof. Of course you have every right to say that and i will happily show you proof. Teens who watch porn are reported to commit more sexual violent acts also knowns as TDV, Teen dating violence.
Violent pornography exposure was associated with all types of TDV, though patterns differed by gender. Boys exposed to violent pornography were 2-3 times more likely to report sexual TDV perpetration and victimization and physical TDV victimization, while girls exposed to violent pornography were over 1.5 times more likely to be perpetrate threatening TDV compared to their non-exposed counterparts.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31309432/
It also makes you more accepting towards rape myths and sexual deviancy in general, less sensitive and twists your brain into accepting sick things, like rape fantasies and violent sexual accts, as shown in the following studies.
A positive d indicates exposure to pornography had negative outcomes, while a negative d indicates positive consequences in relation to sexual deviancy, sexual perpetration, intimate relationships, and rape myth outcomes. As can be noted, no negative d's emerged in the current meta-analysis, thereby indicating the consistent negative effect of exposure to pornography in each of these four areas.
https://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.525.9208&rep=rep1&type=pdf
Here it shows how even rape gets subcouncisly accepted.
The present study was conducted to learn more about the association between fraternity membership and attitudes and behaviors associated with sexual aggression against women. A male experimenter took digital pictures of all of the images of women displayed in the rooms of 30 fraternity men and 30 non-fraternity men on a residential, small, liberal arts college campus. The men also filled out a rape myth acceptance scale. A total of 91 images were found in the form of posters, “pin-ups,” advertisements, or computer screen savers. It was found that fraternity men had significantly more images of women displayed in their rooms and that the images were rated significantly more degrading than those in the rooms of non-fraternity men. Fraternity men were found to have significantly higher scores on a rape supportive attitude scale (RSA). RSA scores were positively related to the amount of degradation in the images found in men's rooms. The possible purposes and consequences of the display of degrading sexual images are discussed.
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11199-005-7136-6
Now we can go a step further and see that the most common thing amongst serial killers is porn. Now almost every one of those murderes says that porn had a massive effect into lowering their guilt and hesitation in commiting the horrible acts they did. They dont have a reason to lie about this and even if, these people dont really knew each other but everyone of them said the same thing about pornography.
There is also a video of Ted Bundy talking about how porn affected him. https://youtu.be/tfwJeHtrWNI
Okay so then there is one big counter argument: Sexual crimes actually decreased. But here is the catch, the less it got the thighter security and tracking technology got. Saying that porn prevents crimes from happening is ignorant considering the evidence i provided, the only reason why these crimes decreased is because its harder to commit them without getting catched.
The term teen has been on top lists in pornography searchings and if you think about the actual meaning of this its sickeing. People get aroused by the thought of a barely legal person being sexually displayed and who knows where it goes from on there.
But this begs the question again: Why all of this? Why would anyone want this to happen? If i had the answers I would tell you but i am trying to figure out the truth aswell.

2020.11.23 03:25 history_taker Batman Returns: The Best Catwoman Movie Ever Made

On June 19th, Batman Returns celebrated its 28th birthday. For me, this was always the Batman film that came to my mind when thinking about the Caped Crusader. I loved Michael Keaton’s portrayal as Batman in both his Batman and Batman Returns; and while I largely enjoyed every incarnation that the comic book character appeared in, the mood and aesthetic in style and sound of the Tim Burton directed Batmans really stuck out as the mold by which other versions are filled. Even so, there is something definitively unique about the Batman Returns film over the others. No matter if it is Batman, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises – they all share the similar through-line of being films primarily about Batman or Bruce Wayne engaging the wider world of Gotham City and restoring some idea of order and justice. Batman Returns, to be sure, has all of that but it ultimately not a Batman film but instead a Catwoman film.
At first glimpse the film seems to be a typical superhero film. A bad guy wrecks havoc on the city; Batman discovers who, what, and why they are doing evil in Gotham; order is restored and Batman waits for the next call of duty. Batman Returns, however, comes with a little more nuance – not much, to be sure—but nuance all the same. See, the film plays up the duality motif in nearly every major character. Batman/Bruce Wayne is a citizen business man who, for reasons other films explore more deeply, is compelled to devote enough of his sense of self to his vigilante persona. Catwoman/ Selina Kyle explores this similar structure but from the reverse, a working class woman who takes her orders more from self interest than from a place of evil, necessarily. Moreover, she seems more interested in vaguely man-hating, and overtly seeking vengeance against her boss and attempted murderer Max Shreck. Our main antagonist, Penguin is actually split twice over. First, they cleft from the Penguin character him being an evil robber baron (a role created into the Max Shreck character) but also as the aristocratic born deformed child who was tossed to the sewers. Penguin is thus portrayed as a monster who leads a gang of deviant circus performers, who is enticed into power by Max Shreck in a cunning reversal of propositions between the two. And lastly, about Max Shreck, he is the most monolithic of the characters and 2 dimensional. But he does have one saving grace that allows the smallest of minute glimpses into his humanity: he sacrifices himself for his son at the end of the film. Otherwise, this character is just a pompous, callus, vile and evil idea of the head of a corporation (original Penguin concept.)
📷
As for movies that are highly played to a child and young adult audience go, this exploration of the dualities of characters rubbing up against one another to tell a story of chaos and opportunity, Batman Returns delivers. But I feel that the through-line that actually moves the film and is indeed telling a story is the “coming of age” motif of Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Let me explain. First, every other character in the film is largely whole and not really developing. Kyle is the only who definitively is changed by the end of the story.
Next, when we see Selina Kyle for the first time, she is in the board room at Shreck Industries among Max Shreck and presumably investors and the mayor of Gotham who are disputing the need for a power plant. Kyle mouses around the room, clattering coffee carafes, cups, spoons. She clunks in her uncomfortable heels in a down-played albeit form-fitting business attire. Her hair is pulled back, matronly, she hides behind a pair of thick black-framed glasses. In a small glimpse of the brave and strong woman she is deep, deep inside, with a moment of impertinent office decorum she squeaks a …suggestion. The room laughs her off and that is that. The scene introduces us to the demure office assistant, unaware of her strength, trapped in a structure she does not really fit in. The point is all the more expounded when, after a harrow fight down in Gotham plaza, she is saved by Batman after a member of the clown posse holds her captive. She could hardly stumble an utterance to the man that saves her. As Kyle makes it home, we are given an excellent shot into her apartment.

This apartment scene is very important at explaining Selina Kyle in life. It does the job better than any amount of back story or pros could possibly do in what amounts as a comic book film. We are left clues that she is psychologically stuck in her girl/child stage in life, with the faint, grimy Gotham touch of “past the sell by date.” The interior of the apartment is soft pink. Her furniture is adorned with stuffed animals. She has a whimsical doll house in her bedroom and a neon sign that blazes “Hello There.” There is one last detail that works as the definitive statement that Selina Kyle very much interacts with her world as a child and is interacted with by the world as a child, or at least, someone to expect very little of and from. She plays the answering machine. Her mother scorns her in an authoritative tone, she is brushed off by a possible dating interest, she finally gets the message she sends herself to go back to the office and prep ahead of an important meeting for her boss.

As far as “crossing the veil,” goes for characters, Selina Kyle’s moment definitively comes when she is tossed from the window by her first attempted murderer, Max Shreck. The music that Danny Elfman composes for the film works best in announcing Selina Kyle or Catwoman. He lets the music sigh, sly, sneak and whip. Her theme is always playing and announcing her presence in the film. The first hint of this score occurs at the moment she shocks herself awake after plummeting and getting chewed on by the alley cats. When she slowly stumbles back to her apartment, clearly throttling the line between life and death, Kyle reenacts a clumsy version of the last time she was in the apartment. It is in this act that a kind-of death does occur. Kyle dies but Catwoman is born. Or more precisely, the girl aspect of this character is torn completely from her womanhood experience and thrust deep into the hyper-vigilante woman aspect. She slowly comes undone, and this is one of the two most powerful moments in the whole film. As she is drinking milk from the carton, streams of the white liquid flowing down her chin and gown, she played the answering machine and lands on this telemarketer message imploring her to buy a perfume that will make her unforgettable to all men and may even get you noticed by the boss—available by Shreck Industries. She throws the carton of milk in a split of rage and proceeds to tare the apartment from pillar to post. She physically goes through the living space, item by item, every vestige of childhood is destroyed by Kyle. She stabs stuffed animals and feeds them to the garbage disposal. She breaks the neon sign bastardizing it to read now “Hell Here,” she topples over the doll house, sprays black spray paint all over the walls. She fashions herself a latex suit (dissecting what the costume designer or Tim Burton may be into is not the point of this essay but it would make for an interesting one.) Meanwhile, all through this splitting of personality and clefting from childhood to adulthood in a sudden attack on self, is this intensely sly and sad, silky theme Elfman composes to represent Catwoman.
She dons the suit she made and ventures now into the city, a woman. Her first official act in this almost literal, new skin, she saves a woman from sexual assault. She kills the man by stabbing him in the face, but before given any sign of thanks by the captive woman, she shuns her as a typical fool, always ready to be a damsel in distress. Real liberty, real living is never needing a man to save you. As for fodder into quiet political statements, I would not read too much into it. But it was interesting in that at most all we can claim this idea of a villain in a comic book story is “chaotic neutral.”

The rest of the film, nearly every time we see Catwoman (not Selina Kyle) she is presumably killed—often dropped from a great height. She is thwarted by Batman on a rooftop and plummets into a dump truck appropriate hauling kitty litter, she is hooked by a rogue umbrella that Penguin attaches to her and she falls into a greenhouse. Not until the end of the movie do we get told that these were actual “deaths,” and that part of Cabwoman’s existence came with apparently 9 lives. In between each of these confrontations, we see Catwoman overtly interested in the downfall of Batman but also in the undoing and murder of Max Shreck.
Interesting to note, every time that Selina Kyle appears in the film, she is far more confident, far more mysterious, and not without a dash of noticeable darkness. The glasses are gone. The hair is down. Her blouse is more opened allowing the fullness of femininity that is not intimidated by the trappings of corporate man. It is this particular woman that attracts Bruce Wayne. Nestled gently is a strange love interest between Batman and Catwoman, and Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle – neither knowing the others secret, falling in love twice in one person. In today’s age of comic book movies, I think these themes could be explored more deeply and more compellingly, but this dynamic in the film is one that I think works incredibly well and is surprisingly touching in all the lessons this sub-story tells. Namely, if Catwoman is the story of being powerful and not needing a “Bat” man, than new and improved independent Selina Kyle, is the story of wanting so very badly to have companionship but recognizing the kind that love she wants this version of her cannot have. Love and anger are not good mixes. In between the dialogue of Batman and Catwoman they banter, Batman says “Mistletoe can be deadly when you eat it,” followed by the other—Catwoman replies,” a kiss can be deadlier if you mean it.” That very same phrase is said between Bruce Wayne and Salina Kyle but in reverse at the masquerade held at Schreck Industries. When they lock eyes and realize the othe’rs secret, (satisfyingly to me while Siouxsie & the Banshees is playing Face to Face) you can see the incredible sadness and shock. It is the look one has when their dreams are dashed. This was simply incredible, especially for a comic movie.

In a nod to the 9 lives idea of cats and the supposed deaths Kyle had endured thus, the final confrontation ends in the sewers. At last, Batman pleads with Catwoman that they can put this life behind them and start something new together. In vain, she turns him down as Max Shreck shoots Batman. Shreck then proceeds to empty the rest of the gun into Selina Kyle. “4, 5, Still alive!” Bang! Bang! She struggles, stumbles closer, chokes, “6! 7! All good girls go to Heaven.” Bang! She has one life left to spare. She finally kills herself as sacrifices that life in the pursuit to kill her killer, Max Shreck. In this act, her arc was thus complete. The coming of age was also an invitation to death, perhaps because it was an inorganic transformation. Her goal, her downfall, was that her sense of purpose was always to extract revenge for herself, but it ultimately would be at the cost of a different kind of life. True to form, however, she gives everything of herself to that goal and succeeds. Yet in the next scene, among the calm, crisp, slow falling snow, we see at the closeout of the film a chauffeured Bruce Wayne looking longingly out the window. We have all been there—heartbroken and despondently gazing—he glimpses he thinks perhaps the presumed dead Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Wayne orders Alfred to stop the car, he chases down the alleyway hoping to confirm his suspicions that she was still there, this once overlooked regrettably forgettable girl, a woman he loves. Alas, no. A cat mews and brushes past Bruce Wayne and he takes it with him. In a sigh he finalizes the tale, “goodwill toward men ….and women.”
Is this the perfect ending to a good Batman movie? I guess so. But for me, I would say it was a very good way to tell a Catwoman story. Give it a watch and tell me what you think.

2020.11.21 22:31 ivorylineslead30 CMV: Trump is going to successfully get votes thrown out and overturn the election results.

Trump’s fraud claims have been something of a distraction it seems and the real focus has been on equal protection violations. Lawyers are claiming that the process has violated the 14th amendment in swing states by not verifying signatures and so on. There are enough votes that could be invalidated that could change the results. I don’t agree with the reasoning, but trump has enough support from republicans where I think he can get away with it.
The cases that seem to have the most of a chance are in Michigan, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. In Michigan, there is testimony stating that election officials were not checking signatures. In PA, the case appears to revolve around observers not being able to see if signatures were being matched. The legal teams are using the much lower rejection rate for absentee ballots as evidence to corroborate this. There has been a victory already in PA regarding ballots with no date. The result was 2k ballots being tossed.
I think it is very likely that some of these cases will be successful. And even if not enough votes are thrown out, he may be able to cast enough doubt on the process that state republicans will feel safe ignoring the popular vote in their state.
Here is a link to the case that was recently won by the trump campaign in PA: https://www.democracydocket.com/cases/allegheny-county-boe-appeal/
The Wayne county canvassers in Michigan are citing the irregularities I mentioned in their reasoning for submitting affidavits to change their votes. The state canvassing board is likely to also split down party lines and refuse to certify on the same grounds.
Finally, GA, although certified, is going to audit signatures. This also seems likely to result in enough ballots being thrown out to change the outcome, despite the fact that signature match is a weak science and all of these will be real votes cast in good faith.

2020.11.20 17:01 GreenmantleHoyos Controversial Opinion: Katie chose Dierks because...SPOILERS

SPOILERS TURN AWAY NOW IF YOU’RE NOT CAUGHT UP
Alright, I expect this to get some hate, so feel free to tell me I’m wrong. I’m also overthinking the hell out of this, so buckle up I guess.
Katie chose Dierks knowing full well in her heart of hearts that he was a dirtbag. I don’t believe she thought she could change him, either. I believe she chose him because he was a dirt bag.
It’s hinted at pretty strongly that she and Wayne had a pretty tough upbringing that has actually screwed them up quite a bit on some stuff. It’s also clear that Katie has some bitterness against men in general, for one example whenever Wayne says Stormy keeps trying to kill her studs, she, like clockwork, says “that’s my girl”.
Her romantic life is pretty damn chaotic to start with and is not the romantic life of a happy person. Reilly and Jonesy are cheating on her but she doesn’t really care (they’re basically a convenience for her as she is for them), her other encounters are pretty loveless, with maybe something real with StrRt for about five minutes.
She needed someone like Dierks so she can now tell herself that she gave love a shot and that love is bad or doesn’t work for her. She met this degen in a strip club, his game was basically “‘sup?” He even looks like a typical movie/tv scum bag. It’s not like he steamrolled her with charm, she basically chose him from the jump.
She wasn’t dating Dierks she was performing a ritual. She played the right part and said the right words and set the right boundaries knowing basically that Dierks was destined to screw everything up.
I’m not saying her heart wasn’t broken or that her pain wasn’t real, far from it, what I am saying is that this wasn’t about love and betrayal, this was her setting up the perfect psycho drama to justify not actually changing or addressing the fact that her whole pattern of love and relationships is pretty sad and defective.
I for certain sure am not defending Dierks, he is the Alberta beef, maybe even the grass fed Wagyu, of dipshits. What I am saying is that Katie has been sizing up men on a competitive level for years and there is 0% chance she didn’t know what kind of man he was and what was going to happen next. There are a lot of women who get fooled by dirt bag men, I just don’t think Katie is one of them.
So good on the boys for beating the shit out of Dierks, I guess, he probably deserved it on general principle. But man they went to war because Katie is a broken, and sad, person.

2020.11.20 04:06 Krymestone My Top 15 Supernatural Episodes

I concocted this a few weeks ago and I’m just a nobody fan but I wanted to put this here anyway. Get ready for a long post...
My Top 15 Supernatural Episodes
This was an incredibly hard list to compile. Not just because of how many episodes there are, and how many years and great characters--there are just so many episodes with so many great characters it’s hard to choose which would be the best 15. That’s impossible for me, so I’m just choosing my 15 favorite episodes. The ones I can always go back and re-watch, with no problem. You may disagree with the choices, the order, but that’s OK. You can always make your own list. In the meantime, grab a six pack, some burgers, fire up the classic rock, and kick back. And if you’re like Sam…a salad will do.
15. “Wendigo” (S1 E2)
For me, for some reason, every time I think of “Supernatural”, the “Wendigo” episode comes to mind. Maybe it’s because it’s the first episode that resonated for me. It certainly resonated for Sam Winchester, who cites the encounter with this creature much later on in the show (“Remember when we were just hunting Wendigos?”, from “Two Minutes to Midnight”). It’s a fun episode, very early “X-Files” like and reinforces the “Monster of the Week” trope that became so popular in shows like this. Still searching for their dad, they follow coordinates that lead them to Blackwater Ridge, a popular camping site where campers are being hunted and killed by a Wendigo. Sam and Dean team up with a family and a guide to find a missing brother. As much as I admired the pilot (and did actually watch it when it premiered back in 2005), it is this episode that usually gets the most re-watches. Of course, Sam’s reminiscing about this particular time was because it was simpler, innocent times. It was when the show was young enough to be unaware of what lies ahead. For me, this was the real “starting point” of the show.
14. “Fan Fiction” (S10 E5)
Normally, and nearly always, I roll my eyes when there’s a “musical” episode on the horizon of a TV show. It’s been done to death, and just because it had been done well (“Buffy”, of course), doesn’t mean it needed to be done by every show. Well, “Supernatural” did about as good a job you could with this because they had fun with it. And it was a fun episode. It was nice to see another meta episode handle the in-jokes well. I like that the whole cast was female, and I liked seeing Dean get into it. Sam and Dean investigate the disappearance of a teacher at a high school, and find out that the school is putting on a production of…“Supernatural”, complete with all the main characters, situations, and references to their previous adventures. While the musical continues in production, Sam and Dean investigate and Sam realizes that their “monster” (reference to MOTW) is a Muse, Calliope. The best part, for me, was the ensemble singing an a cappella rendition of “Carry On My Wayward Son”, the season finale intro sequence.
13. “Heart” (S2 E17)
This episode surprised me. I didn’t expect to get emotionally involved in a one-off the way that I did. Here we have Sam falling for a woman, for the first time since he lost his true love Jessica. But there’s a catch, of course, and it winds up being a pretty serious one. Especially, how they have to end things. I mean, we couldn’t have Sam riding into the sunset with a squeeze, right? That would be too nice. Unfortunately, Madison, the love interest, turns out to be a werewolf, and Sam has to make the ultimate decision on whether to protect her from herself, or slay her himself. The use of Queensryche’s “Silent Lucidity” is what makes this episode powerful though. I mean, the show is renowned for its soundtrack through the years. But you’ll never hear this song the same way when you see those single tears…
12. “Lebanon” (S14 E13)
John Winchester. That’s why this one‘s in here. I’m a huge fan of reunions and this was as close to a cast reunion you could get to, for the Family Winchester. The rest of the episode is pretty unremarkable, which is why this one is listed so low. I absolutely loved the scenes with the Winchesters sharing a meal and drinks, good times. But the subplot of the teenagers (Stacy and Max) stealing the Impala, the John Wayne Gacy ghost, just feels like it should have been its own story--but one that’s already been done before. So it was kind of shoehorned in, to pad out the rest of the episode. What’s unfortunate about that is that it wasn’t necessary. The power those few scenes had with John telling his sons how proud he was of them, and he and Mary getting to be together again, could have been its own whole episode. So while this is also a criticism of a bigger missed opportunity, it still stands as one of the most memorable moments in “Supernatural” history. I love “gangs-all-here” sentiments, and this one brings it.
11. “Time After Time After Time” (S7 E12)
Another thing that I loved about “Supernatural” is how closely related it was to “The X-Files”, one of my all-time favorite shows (for the first 5 or so seasons anyway). Not only in thematic and structural ways, but also the people making it. This show brought over veterans like John Shiban and Kim Manners (until his passing), and made references to the show a lot. It also brought over actors like Mitch Pileggi and one of my personal favorites, Nicholas Lea. Lea was famous for playing Alex Krycek in “The X-Files”, a nemesis of Fox Mulder’s and one of the best villains during that period of television. In this episode, Dean is brought back into the 1940’s to get the help of Elliot Ness, played by Lea. Ness turns out to be a hunter himself, and he and Dean team up to stop Chronos, a time-god. The idea of Dean getting to live in the 40’s is amusing, and it’s fun to see Jensen and Lea have some fun screen time together. For Lea’s part, he’s good as Ness. It’s a joy to watch, and it’s always on my mind as a re-watch whenever revving up the “Supernatural” episodes.
10. “Baby” (S11 E4)
At some point during the run of the show, I know many fans would think of this as a great idea for an episode. The ‘67 Chevy Impala essentially became a character itself; because of Dean’s obsessive nature toward it, and because of its history with the show. It was basically General Lee from “Dukes of Hazzard”. So this episode gives fan service to that, and literally gives us an episode from the perspective of Baby, the Impala. In order to keep the perspective going without being too conspicuous, the car sees a lot of action. It even gets temporarily “stolen” (unbeknownst to Dean, thankfully). The episode is also a monster-of-the-week with this one being a nachzehrer (say that five times fast), and features a lesson in numismatics, that we stopped using copper for pennies after 1982. There’s some great gory moments in this one, and some humor involving Castiel being made to watch Netflix. The Baby gimmick could have petered out quickly and become more of a distraction (such as “Bitten”); but this works delightfully, and ends on a high note with the Brothers Winchester singing “Night Moves” together. Because, as Dean confirms, everything is a Bob Seger song.
9. “Bad Day at Black Rock” (S3 E3)
Another fun episode in which Sam & Dean are trying to stave off a good-luck curse in the form of a rabbit’s foot that their father had kept locked away. It gets stolen by two incompetent thieves who turn out to be hired by Bela (a recurring villainess). The episode starts getting good when Sam retrieves the foot from the thieves, accidentally touching it, and possessing a streak of good luck. When he loses it, his luck becomes the complete opposite--dangerously so, as you inevitably die (as proven by the dimwitted thieves). Dean also gets a turn with it, playing the lotto so he’ll win a bunch of cash. It becomes about as caperish as you could get, with everyone vying for this good luck charm that you literally have to keep on you, or else you’ve got a date with death. One of my favorite lines, maybe from any episode, is when Sam just sadly walks up to Dean and simply says, “I lost a shoe.”
8. “Just My Imagination” (S11 E8)
I didn’t expect to like this episode at all. I knew Nate Torrence from various TV ads he was doing years ago, and I just couldn’t stand him. But not only did my feelings toward him change, they changed hard. I loved his performance as Sully, Sam’s imaginary friend, and his importance to Sam’s childhood and maturity. During Sam’s childhood, Sully tried to help him accept himself and his decisions. Ultimately of course, Sam abandons Sully (after promising they’d run away together), in order to join his family. Sully never holds it against him, but understands and lets Sam go. In the present tense, Sam and Dean essentially travel into the Drop Dead Fred World (and do a much better job with imaginary friends than that movie did). But there’s something more profound to this episode, and that’s the antagonist, who is connected to Sully. Somewhere in Sully’s past, there was a tragic accident that he is blamed for. In the end, things get resolved to a very heartwarming and even emotional level. And inside my head I apologized for any bad thing I ever thought or said about Nate Torrence. I’m sure somewhere Sully is forgiving me.
7. “A Very Supernatural Christmas” (S3 E8)
This has become as classic to me, and as must-watch-during-the-holidays as “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. It’s a decent MOTW episode, but it also has heart. It’s the episode Sam gives Dean the famous amulet necklace.
It revolves around a “killer Santa” (a Krampus reference!) that turns out to be a pagan god that Sam & Dean have to stop. Throughout the episode, we get flashbacks to their childhood on a Christmas Eve in which Sam waits for his father, and he never comes. It’s sort of a parallel for when kids find out Santa isn’t real--in this case, it’s his dad not coming through for him and being there for him (something Sam struggles with throughout the show). The surprise Christmas Sam has for Dean is a heartwarming touch, and it ends with a really nice moment the two can share together--a real Christmas. Of course, the backdrop to this is that it might be Dean’s last Christmas since he is on the back end of his Demon Deal that gave him only one year to live. Still, for this little Hallmark moment, we can enjoy the two of them enjoying Christmas.
6. “After School Special” (S4 E13)
I want to make a special mention of the actor Colin Ford, who plays the young Sam Winchester from a kid into adolescence in various episodes. He was in the previously mentioned “Christmas” episode, and “Just My Imagination”, and here he really shines as Sam as both he and Dean revisit a high school--one of many--that they attended during their nomadic lives. For Sam, it’s a bit nostalgic as he made a friend, and somewhat impressed his teacher. He also fights a bully, one who may be haunting the area again. Sam defended his friend, Barry, who has a tragic end following high school. It didn’t get much better for the bully, Dirk, who Sam learns was himself a troubled kid who had it rough. His family was poor, and he didn’t know how to handle his anger. It showed the side of bullies we often don’t see--we always want to see them get theirs, and rarely get a glimpse into what makes them what they are. Meanwhile, Dean revisiting his past just reveals his inability to really relate to anyone--he just tries to woo girls and skip school. Be a misfit. In the end, it’s Sam who winds up looking like the more mature kid that handled high school better than Dean did. He had a lot of soul searching to do, and wasn’t anywhere near able to do so. It’s a sweet episode, especially with Sam getting to reconnect with his teacher, however briefly. And again, it really sticks out thanks to Colin Ford’s effortless portrayal as Sam--and man if he doesn’t exactly resemble what Sam would’ve looked like at that age.
5. “Changing Channels” (S5 E8)
Whatever your own “Supernatural” list is, if this episode isn’t in your Top 5, you need to rethink your list. This has to be one of the most consistently funny hours of TV of all time. Throwing Sam and Dean into commercials, medical drama and CSI schlock, and a Japanese gameshow, is a real blast. And, featuring one of my favorite “villains” (who later becomes somewhat of a hero), Loki. They have to take it seriously and play it straight…that means digging into the world of “Dr. Sexy M.D.” (which Dean knows more than he should about), Sam admitting he has herpes in an ad, and having to speak Japanese in order to play the game show. Either way, it seems, that Loki the Trickster will keep them trapped. Speaking of which, there’s a pretty serious reveal at the end of this episode that changes the whole tone and makes this episode that much more special. This show has a lot of meta episodes, and a lot more funny episodes than a horror-based show probably should have; but for some reason, these are usually the best episodes. It’s fun to see Sam and Dean have to go through these crazy things while keeping a straight face. And if it weren’t for the hours of hilarious outtakes videos out there, I would’ve really pushed for an outtakes episode. But, speaking of being meta about the show itself…we’ll get to that a little later.
4. “Abandon All Hope (S5 E10)
Talk about a gut punch. This episode has two major deaths that really deal a blow to the psyche. This episode revolves around stopping Lucifer, with the help of everybody’s favorite villain-that-we-love, Crowley. The boys hatch a plan with him to stop Lucifer from continuing the ensuing Apocalypse. But things go south, like they always do, and the mother-daughter hunters Ellen and Jo (one a love interest for Bobby Singer and the other a sister-he-never-had to Dean), wind up in a precarious situation that could mean the end for them. I loved the gang of Bobby, Dean, Sam, Ellen, and Jo; I think you‘d be hard-pressed to find a fan of the show that didn‘t revel in their camaraderie. They gelled nicely. And although we did lose a lot of other great characters through the years (Charlie, Kevin, and of course Bobby himself), we didn’t face losing 2 at one time like we do here. It’s a one-two punch of a mother and a daughter, and a relationship and bond that was extremely strong and loving. It feels so empty after losing them, that the title really hits home. It’s one of their most dramatically effective episodes, because the stakes are at their highest.
3. “The End” (S5 E4)
The 5th season of “Supernatural”, at one point, was going to be the final season. And they certainly made inroads to make sure that was going to happen. The story surrounding the season was the Apocalypse, as mentioned in my #4, and by all accounts, it was going down. And it was going to be real explosive, and devastating. At this point in the season, Dean still believes that there’s “another way” (to Sam & Dean, this phrase is their calling card), without being involved with the Angels, who want Dean to be Michael’s vessel. Sam is prophesized to be Lucifer’s vessel. So, Dean tries to defect; Zachariah, the Angel (played by the sniveling prick in “Ghostbusters II”, Kurt Fuller) sends Dean 5 years into the future, at the specific date that Dean and Sam “fight” as Michael and Lucifer. Dean finds himself with another pack, also lead by Dean (Future Dean), who has lost hope because…Sam is now Lucifer after all. He tells Our Time Dean that he tried everything, and thought he could beat it, and every time…it came to this. There’s nothing anyone can do but watch it happen. This episode contains some laughs as well as real dramatic tension, especially as seeing Lucifer possessing Sam, and killing Future Dean right in front of Present Day Dean’s face. The biggest laughs come from Future Castiel, who has abandoned being an Angel and lives as a hedonistic hippie, doing drugs and having orgy sex. It’s so against-type of Castiel’s character, it’s a legendary moment in the canon. And I’m sure actor Misha Collins got to have a lot of fun doing it.
2. “The French Mistake” (S6 E15)
By this point, I have to mention that one of the best writers of the show was Ben Edlund. As just a small piece of evidence, this episode, plus the two previous on this list, are all written by him. He is most famously known for creating every iteration of “The Tick”, and shows his comedic chops as well as his depth as a dramatic writer. Here, though, is probably his masterpiece. “The French Mistake” is the episode I think any “Supernatural” fan might say is their favorite. It’s the one that puts Sam and Dean…playing Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, in an alternate universe, in which they hate each other and put on this show called “Supernatural”…and their director’s name…is Bobby Singer (in reality, it’s Robert Singer, but it’s made to make a joke obviously). Sam and Dean are thrown into this universe by Balthazar to protect them against Raphael, who is coming after them. They have to learn how to act as Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, because Sam and Dean are just characters. Like “Purple Rose of Cairo”, the characters play the actors of the characters. Jared is married to Sam’s Ruby (which is true in real life as well), to the dismay of Dean. But they’re both pretty wealthy. The bad news is, they can’t act. So watching them push through a scene is hilarious, and brings out their comic chops (which sometimes don’t get enough credit). Also a kudos to Misha Collins, who plays himself as an obsessive social media magnet, calling his fans “Misha Migos”. It’s an all-around classic, and it’s probably on most people’s Top 10 Lists as #1...but I’ve got another favorite, that came way later in the show but it defines it for me perfectly.
1. “Scoobynatural” (S13 E16)
In some ways, “Supernatural” is “Scooby Doo”. And there have been little jokes here and there about that. Well, here we get the full Scooby treatment with an episode nearly entirely animated in the style of a “Scooby Doo” episode. Dean buys a TV from a pawn shop and sets it up, only to get sucked into the TV itself, while watching the show. Sam joins him, followed by Castiel later. Dean is a total Scooby fan boy so when he realizes he’s in a cartoon, he’s loving it. Sam is less pleased, but plays along. The Scooby gang is perfectly voiced, and their characters are extremely true to the original show. Of course they get caught up in a mystery that involves a ghost and an old house. But that’s not all--there might be a real ghost, even though Velma keeps trying to chide everybody that ghosts don’t exist. One of the funnier running jokes is also Velma trying not to show how attracted to Sam she is. There are some great gags like Dean showing Sam how many sandwiches he can fit into his mouth, and Castiel being teamed up with Shaggy and Scooby. It’s also fun to watch Dean try to put the moves on Daphne, who is completely oblivious to any kind of sexual tension. I think the episode accentuates what is so lovable about the show--it can be very cartoonish and animated in its own right, even as live action entertainment. Putting it in the Scooby Doo universe just adds to the fun. It’s parody as well as homage, to both “Supernatural” and “Scooby Doo”. The fact that it pulls this off so well is why it’s my number one favorite episode.
For fifteen years, the show has done it all, and it’s sad to see it go: but it’s not being rushed, or forced out. The writers and actors have been allowed to go at their pace, and that has paid off greatly. Maybe after this finale is over, there might be a shift in my list down the road. But for now, I think this will suffice.

2020.11.19 22:54 a-lolololololololol Here’s a Timeline of the Presidential Certification Process That Trump Is Trying to Disrupt

https://www.nytimes.com/article/us-election-results-trump-biden.html
Here’s a breakdown of the certification deadlines and other key dates in battleground states, and what will happen between now and Inauguration Day.
Friday, Nov. 20: Georgia
There is a 5 p.m. Friday deadline for officials to certify election results in Georgia, which Mr. Biden won in a rare Democratic victory in the Deep South that has left Republicans deeply frustrated. The Georgia secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, has said the state will meet the Friday deadline despite having conducted a time-consuming hand recount of the five million ballots cast there. Mr. Raffensperger is responsible for certifying the results, and he has fiercely defended the state’s electoral process against attacks from Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump’s campaign could still ask for a machine recount of the vote, but Mr. Biden’s lead is far larger than such a recount could be expected to overcome.
Monday, Nov. 23: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maine
Mr. Biden won these three states, though Mr. Trump won one electoral vote in Maine’s Second Congressional District. In Michigan, the Board of State Canvassers has scheduled a meeting on Monday. The board’s task involves reviewing and certifying the results previously certified by canvassing boards in each county. Despite Republican protests over the certification of results in Wayne County, the state is expected to certify on time. For his part, Mr. Trump has invited Michigan Republican lawmakers to the White House for a discussion on Friday. Monday is also the deadline for counties in Pennsylvania to certify their totals and send them to Kathy Boockvar, the secretary of the commonwealth, who will certify the state results. Pennsylvania doesn’t have a hard deadline for when Ms. Boockvar must sign off, but there is no reason to expect a delay. Maine also has its certification deadline on Nov. 23, too, but there are no serious disputes there.
Tuesday, Nov. 24: Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio
This is the certification deadline for Minnesota, North Carolina and Ohio, none of which are expected to be contentious. Mr. Biden won Minnesota; Mr. Trump won North Carolina and Ohio.
Monday, Nov. 30: Arizona, Iowa, Nebraska
Arizona has to certify its results by this date, as do Iowa and Nebraska. Mr. Biden won Arizona, Mr. Trump won Iowa, and in Nebraska, Mr. Trump won statewide but Mr. Biden won one electoral vote in the state’s Second Congressional District. The Arizona Republican Party is trying to delay certification, pressuring county officials and asking a court to postpone certification in Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix. But in the absence of a court order — and, so far, the courts have rejected almost every Republican challenge across the country — counties are expected to certify on time and Katie Hobbs, the secretary of state and a Democrat, is expected to sign off on the final, statewide certification. No disputes are expected in Iowa or Nebraska that could delay certification.
Tuesday, Dec. 1: Nevada, Wisconsin
This is the deadline for Nevada and Wisconsin, both of which Mr. Biden won, to certify their results. In Nevada, the first step is for county commissioners to certify the results and send them to the secretary of state, who will present summaries to the Nevada Supreme Court. Ultimately, the governor will need to confirm the outcome. The Trump campaign has filed a lawsuit baselessly claiming that Mr. Trump actually won Nevada, and conservative groups are trying to nullify the results, but these claims are highly unlikely to lead anywhere. Wisconsin has already completed county-level certification, but the Trump campaign is seeking a partial recount, which, if it proceeds, should be complete by the deadline and is not expected to alter the results significantly. Once the recount is completed, the Wisconsin Elections Commission will meet to certify the results statewide.
Tuesday, Dec. 8
This is a key date in the democratic process: If states resolve all disputes and certify their results by Dec. 8, the results should be insulated from further legal challenges, ensuring that states won by Mr. Biden will send Biden delegates to the Electoral College. The certification processes leading up to this date vary from state to state, but the final step is the same everywhere under federal law: The governor of each state must compile the certified results and send them to Congress, along with the names of the state’s Electoral College delegates.
Monday, Dec. 14
Electors will meet on Dec. 14 in their respective states and cast their votes. This vote is, constitutionally, what determines the next president. Mr. Biden has 306 electoral votes to Mr. Trump’s 232. Many states formally require their electors to vote for the candidate they pledged to vote for, generally the winner of the state’s popular vote. Historically, rogue electors have been few and far between, and have never altered the outcome.
Wednesday, Jan. 6
Congress is ultimately responsible for counting and certifying the votes cast by the Electoral College, and it is scheduled to do so on Jan. 6. If there are still disputes at this point — if Republican legislators in a state were to appoint a pro-Trump Electoral College slate in opposition to voters’ will, for instance, and the Democratic governor of the state were to appoint a pro-Biden slate — it would be Congress’s job to resolve them. Election law experts say that under federal statute, the governor’s slate should be favored.
Wednesday, Jan. 20
Mr. Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States.

Her hands couldn’t stop shaking. Barbara sat in her room and watched the news unfold. Seeing those clown masks… that face… everywhere. She had to look away and just listen eventually. Gotham was going mad, falling into a darkness it had never seen before.
And the worst part was -- Barbara was having a difficult time finding reason to fight against this new Joker. His words were sensible. His actions were almost all justifiable. His goals seemed to be for the betterment of the people.
Barbara shook her head, knowing she was being silly. There was chaos in the streets and a woman had been shot by this crazed imposter. He had to be stopped, of course he did. But she couldn’t shake the feeling that if this new Joker lost, the city would lose as well.
Just then, her phone rang. It was a blocked number, but she knew who it was.
“Hey,” she said.
“Babs,” said the other voice. It was Dick, of course. Somehow she knew she’d be hearing from him. It was only a matter of time.
Barbara smiled. The fact that he still called her that was a silver lining between them. A closeness that would never be severed. At least they had that. She walked over and pressed her hand against the cold glass of her window. In the distance she could see the glow of fires being set to cars some streets away. People were running. The riots had spread all across the city, the worst of it still miles away, but it had even reached her neck of the woods.
“It’s horrible, Dick. How are you doing?”
“You know me,” he said. She could hear the classic smirk on his face. Oftentimes she felt like she didn’t.
“I’m going out there, Dick.”
“I know you are,” he said. “And I’m calling to ask you for help. Lucius Fox. He’s been taken. A group of this new Joker’s lackeys have brought him to Wayne Tower… I’m sure you’ve heard their goals.”
“I have.” Barbara had been glued to the television. Of course she had seen this new Joker announce his plans to redistribute the wealth of Gotham’s elite to the people when he interrupted the broadcast of her father’s speech. *
“...we don’t know what they’ll do to him after they succeed. So it’s best that we don’t wait around to find out. Batwing is on the move. Meet him downtown. He’ll be taking care of some of the carnage while he can.”
“I will.”
Dick didn’t hang up immediately. Neither did she. It was the silence between two who had much to say to each other but didn’t know where to start. Barbara clenched her eyes shut and breathed deeply. She couldn’t feel this way. She couldn’t feel this fear, either.
“It’s good to hear from you, Dick,” she said. And she hung up the phone before he could respond. There was work for her to do and she moved to suit up.
She had learned a lot ever since her encounter with the late Zebra Man. He had been killed while trying to give information to Detective Allen, but what he had managed to give them was invaluable. Thanks to Jakob Baker’s bravery, they now knew it was a new individual purporting to be a new Riddler who was organising the Z-listers. Furthermore, Allen found a cell phone on Baker that was identical to the one Barbara had swiped from Condiment King. On it, Babs had found a dossier outlining the Riddler’s associates. Most Batgirl already knew: Condiment King, Kite-Man, Zebra Man, Killer Moth. But one was new. Magpie. But information wasn’t the only thing Barbara had gleaned from her brush with Zebra Man. She had also learned an important lesson.
It was clear to her now what she needed -- what she had been missing this entire time. Tactics. Barbara had always viewed things the same way she viewed her code -- everything was a problem with a solution. She realized that the problem with her approach to heroism was pure aggression, a backlash against what she viewed as cruelty. Oh, she was still angry and ready to prove what she could do. But the solution to her approach was transmutation of those emotions, channeling it into a more useful tool.
Barbara always knew, deep down, that she couldn’t punch like the rest. She could fight and she would push herself, but she couldn’t fight like Dick could or like Batwoman or Huntress. No, she could rise to act like the rest couldn’t. And her drone, Bartok, had always been the missing piece. She was looking forward to approaching her mission with Batwing in a new style.
Soon, she was on the roof. Her fortified bracers, her dark makeshift suit covering her in ease of movement with plenty of armor. Bartok was secured to her utility belt. She spread her cape -- it formed into a wing-shaped frame and she leapt off the building, soaring over Gotham City. This feeling of freedom… of power. It was good. It was her favorite part of being Batgirl.

Among the chaos, Luke Fox did what he could. Batwing was an armored force to be reckoned with -- the rioters were brave and riled up, thinking they could dispatch him easily. They quickly learned otherwise.
Luke had a difficult job ahead of him while he waited for the “new girl” Dick Grayson had mentioned to arrive. The Quick Response Team - or QRT - Gotham’s SWAT division was on the ground, being ruthless with the city’s citizens. So, the armored crusader was certainly making a name for himself among all parties -- battling everyday people and battling the authorities.
When it came to looters and those seeking harm upon others, a simple gadget to wrap up their arms behind their backs was simple. There were QRT and beat officers alike making arrests… but not all of them were sticking to their main mission. The authorities were being way too rough with people following Commissioner Gordon’s message declaring a citywide lockdown, and Batwing had to step in.
Some poor guy was smashed in the head with the butt of a rifle. Luke gave the QRT officer a taste of his own medicine and hurriedly brought the man, who was bleeding from the head, off to the side and applied pressure to the bleeding wound. There were medics and ambulances on the scene and Batwing brought him and whoever else he could to the safe arms of the ones there to actually help.
He paused and looked about him. Cars being overturned. Glass shattering. Gunfire coming from everywhere. Screams. The police had even outsourced to the likes of the high-tech private security firm Monarch to bolster their numbers, but their brutal and pigheaded approach had only stoked the flames of the revolt further. A sea of people surrounded Luke, most of them wearing those damned clown masks. Some painted their faces to the same effect. He took to the skies with the force jets inlaid in his gunmetal black wings and observed from above, trying to keep his breathing under control. Gotham City hadn’t seen such an event in… well, since Bane arrived on the scene. He pulled up a call with Dick Grayson as he landed on a rooftop.
“Dick,” he said. “This isn’t good at all. This is a nightmare. I hope you all get out here and do what you can… but… there isn’t a whole lot we can do for everyone. People are going to get hurt. People are going to…” he stopped himself.
“Luke, I know,” Dick replied, his voice hollow and less clear coming in through the comms of the suit. “We can’t save everyone but… we’re damn well going to do everything we can. Is Batgirl there yet?”
Luke sighed. “I hope she gets here soon. I hope the rest of you get here soon.”

Barbara looked down at the chaos. For all the darkness and pain this was still her city. And seeing these people in such distress was so hard to watch. Knowing she would have to deal with them up close and personal hurt her as well.
She kept an eye out for the black-and-electric-blue Batwing to no avail. He must have been dealing with all of this somewhere as well. She landed on some buildings -- took off again -- tumbled down onto the street. It wasn’t long before opportunists lunged for her. Whether it was rioters who wanted her gear or people who were angry at the bat she wore on her chest.
“She’s with the Waynes!”
“Fuck you, Bat!”
So many people shouted but most were minding their own business destroying other properties. Barbara didn’t need much to dispatch everyday people holding crowbars or swinging with their untrained fists.
But what she wasn’t expecting was how their faces made her knees shake. Some were painted like clowns. Others wore masks. Damn it, this was no time to panic or fall back into the past! She clenched her fists and took care of those who decided to attack her. Nothing special, simple jabs and swipes of her legs left them groveling on the ground with bruises and welts. She rushed off looking for whoever she could help.
Someone rushed out of a large smashed window -- a figure she recognized. Magpie. She whipped out some Batarangs and shouted for her to stop. In her slender, black catsuit, her silver wig framing her grease-painted face, the kleptomaniacal rogue grinned and seemed to relax. She was holding some jewelry and clothes over her shoulder.
“Well, well. Batgirl.” She twirled a pearl necklace on her finger. “What? Are you going to spend time stopping me from stealing from jewelry?”
“No,” she said. “I’m going to bring you in for information. You’re in league with the new Riddler. I know you are.”
Magpie chuckled and sighed. Squinted her eyes. “I think you might have bigger problems on your hands.”
While the riots more than occupied the fledgling Batgirl, Barbara couldn’t abandon her mission to thwart the Z-listers. Besides, with a new Riddler, and now a new Joker, Barbara had to wonder: Was this engineered chaos part of the Z-listers’ scheme, or was this a surprise even to them?
Batgirl heard gunfire from afar, whipping around to see where it came from. Screams blared. A QRT officer was holding a smoking rifle somewhere beyond the crowd. Barbara shuddered. Looked back to find that Magpie had vanished into the crowd.
Barbara ran for the armored man with the gun -- as were many others.
“Put down the weapon!” She shouted, pushing past people, leaping, using her cape to glide forward. The man was angry -- or panicking? He was swinging the gun around. Barbara had to get to him before he shot more people. She landed, slid forward and kicked the gun up into the air.
She was going to restrain him but a mob of people dove.
“No! Stop! Let me handle --” Barbara tried to fight people off. So much screaming, so much anger crashing into her and the police officer like a burning wave. Soon, she was drowning in an ocean of it. There was an innocent person dead on the ground, shot by this coward.
Barbara, for as strong as she was, couldn’t overpower dozens of people. She was shoved away. Punched. The cop screamed and soon, he vanished among the bodies.
“Oh my God,” Barbara breathed, trying to stop them. Someone attacked her from behind and she spun around to defend herself.
It was the Joker.
Barbara lost her breath. Her eyes widened. The Joker was grinning, raising a gun at her. She couldn’t hear. Couldn’t think. Her legs trembled.
“Bang!” the man shouted, and Barbara died. At least, for a moment, she thought she did.
The gun shot out a flag with the word bang printed upon it. As Barbara looked closer at the man, it was just another rioter in a clown mask. He ran off, laughing, cackling, even. She whipped her head around.
No, that was the Joker. For all she knew, he was just pretending he was another person in the crowd. He was hiding among the others now, ready to emerge and make her the butt of another sick joke. People shoved into her. She yelped and turned, round and round, swinging, missing… Soon, she realized she wasn’t turning as often as she thought she was. No, the world was spinning. Her legs were failing her.
Babs’ heart was racing. No, it would be fine. A focus of breath and a sense of determination would -- Her legs were working fine, she -- What if it really was him? What if it was really him?!
She heard the gunshot. That distinct, sharp pain that started in her back -- traveling throughout her entire body. Rendering her legs instantly useless.
Barbara screamed. A pure sound of terror, a sound she hadn’t made in a long time. She kept seeing those masks. Those painted faces.
She was surrounded by him.
Barbara, in that moment, forgot all training. All tactics. She shoved people out of the way but there were too many bodies. She kept getting bumped into and tripping. Everything hurt all of a sudden. There was so much… noise… her heart was racing… someone had died… His face was everywhere…
Her heart was racing -- His face -- It would be fine if she just breathed -- She couldn’t breathe -- She couldn’t breathe -- Her heart was racing -- So fast -- Can’t -- Breathe -- See --
can’t.
walk.
Babs collided with the pavement. Sprawling out. People rushed past. She thought she would get trampled. The city lights were hot and her breathing was so loud in her ears. Her entire body was thumping with each heartbeat. Every shout sounded like gunfire. Every crash was the shattering of her spine. Every cry of pain was her own self, begging to be more, trying to crawl back to the way she once was. The way she needed to be.
She hated this weakness. This uselessness. No matter how much she tried, she… she was just so... weak. No, not weak. Broken.
This was a heart attack. Everything hurt. She couldn’t see properly. A heart attack. She would die, panicking, afraid, useless. Her own heart would fail her just as her legs had.
And then, a hand. Large and strong. A figure was over her, the sun suddenly shining around him, creating a powerful force. It was Batman. It was really him. For the first time, in a long time, he was a bright beacon of hope.
But as she was pulled up, carried away, and lifted into the sky, she quickly knew it wasn’t the Caped Crusader she once knew. This was Batwing, the one she had arrived to join forces with. She wasn’t alone.
It had been a long time since Barbara last felt this sense of safety. Leaning into someone else, someone who was there to help felt good. Putting aside her pride. Letting go.
“Hey, it’s okay,” he said, his voice deep and modulated. “It’s going to be alright. You’re safe.”
Barbara found her breath again.
They landed atop a nearby building as Barbara rushed to the corner of the roof to puke up her guts. Luke watched her and placed his hands on his hips. This was Batgirl… he reminded himself not to judge. This situation was something none of them were prepared for. But he saw her from above, flinging herself about, having a panic attack. She was clearly very new to this field of work.
“Listen,” he said, “Are you up for this? Tell me if you’re not. But…” he paused, collecting himself, choosing his words so he was more motivational than accusatory. “We need you, Batgirl. My father has been taken. I need help. I’ve been told you can help me out here. Help us all out here.”
Batgirl wiped her mouth, turning to him. “I’m… sorry,” she said. “I got overwhelmed.”
“I get it,” said Batwing, walking over next to her, looking out onto the city below. It was becoming so dark and the glow of fires could be seen in the distance. The shouts and sea of violence below. “One step at a time. We can all do this. It will be hard. But we can do this.”
Batgirl clenched her fists and cracked her knuckles. “Wayne Tower, then? Lucius Fox. We’ll save him.”
Luke crossed his arms. “So should we divvy up some clowns to punch when we’re there? I guess we can just go with the flow.”
Batgirl laughed. “I’ll leave the punching to you, Voltron.” She looked at him with determination. “I’ll be able to get in there and get Lucius back if you cover me. Trust me.”
Batwing eyed her for a moment and then clapped her on the back. “I do,” he said. “Let’s get going.”
The Wayne Technologies headquarters had goons covering the roof and the ground entrance. Men and women in clown masks, on high alert, truly devoted to this new cause. Of course they were. Money was a powerful force, whether you truly believed in the injustices the new Joker waxed poetic of to the citizens.
They were approaching from the air, Batwing soaring in his power armor suit and Batgirl with the glider cape she worked so hard on. The lackeys on the roof didn’t see them coming until it was far too late. Barbara sent out Bartok and brought in her cape, falling toward the rooftop. She grabbed hold of her drone, slowing her fall, and delivered a powerful kick to the face of one of the clowns.
Batwing landed hard, taking the attacks from the enemies with ease before rendering them all useless by throwing out devices that opened up and restrained the wrists and ankles of two of the goons. Only two left. One of them going for a walkie talkie of some kind. Batgirl acted fast, commanding Bartok with the communicators on her wrists. The drone ripped forward, smacking the portable radio out of his hands and Batgirl charged him, taking him down with a tackle and good punch.
And then, much to her delight, the communicator built into her mask signalled her attention with a bleep -- Bartok alerting her of danger -- so she tumbled back and swiped out her leg, tripping up the other goon while Batwing restrained him.
“Nicely done,” Luke said. “Looks like the others don’t know we’re coming.”
“But they will soon. I need you to make a distraction for me. When we get in there, cause mayhem, get them all to come after you.”
“Oh gee, can I,” Luke replied sarcastically as they headed for the door on the rooftop.
Barbara grinned. “They’ll get messy. And I can sneak through with Bartok and find where they’re keeping Fox.”
They entered the door. The stairwell was dark and when the door closed behind them they were enveloped in silence. Batwing pressed a button and the LED-lit electric blue bat in the center of his chest glowed a little brighter , guiding the way. Bartok hovered silently near Barbara's shoulder, giving off its own light. They spiraled down and eventually found the next door.
“Okay,” Babs said, placing her hand on the door. “Make a commotion. But, hopefully, we’ll have some time to plan as we make our way through…”
The moment she opened the door, she was met with people, lounging in a rich looking common area. They had their masks pushed up onto the tops of their heads, chatting, some of them even holding steaming cups of tea. The door shut.
Everyone looked at each other for a moment.
“Guess the plan’s out,” Batwing said.
“Improvise?” Batgirl suggested.
“Improvise.”
Batgirl hurried off and when people rushed to give chase, fumbling with their masks, Batwing surged forward, hovering inches off the floor and shoved them away. He grinned and punched a fist into his palm.
“Alright you clowns,” he said. “Let’s dance.” He almost felt bad for them. While he dispatched most in the room he sent fists and explosive projectiles into some objects of the room, making sure everyone in the building knew there was something happening on this floor. Still, Batwing made his way forward, looking for hallways and stairs to find the rest of the goons.
Batgirl hurried off, glancing back at Batwing’s fight only once before putting her focus onto her own mission. She closed her eyes and pushed away her weakness from before. A trip up. A faltering that she’d have to deal with later on. For now… she was moving. Fighting. And she was the only one who could get to Lucius Fox now. While those holding Fox sent their troops after Luke Fox, they wouldn’t expect there to be another Bat on her way to deal with them.
Babs went down the hallway and found a stairwell. Though, she heard others coming up the stairs and hid behind the door as it opened and more clown-masked warriors made their way onto the floor and charged toward the commotion.
She slipped into the doorway as it closed and she slid down railings, hurrying her way down from where they came from. With Bartok at her side, she grinned, feeling powerful again. Capable. She nudged Bartok, as if it were a true, sentient companion.
“Just you and me, buddy.”
She could have sworn it beeped in response to her. But it was certainly her personifying her mechanical companion.
She rushed down hallways and ducked around corners, hiding from those who ran up, responding to radio alers to Batwing attacking. Others stood around, keeping guard. Batgirl crept forward, removing the wire from her utility belt and flung it forward. It wrapped around one man’s neck and she yanked back, pulling him into the other room. She tried to fight but she quickly tied his ankle to his wrists and gagged him with a tablecloth, letting him fall and struggle. His companion heard the commotion and rushed in. Batgirl rendered him unconscious with a simple jab and caught him before he fell too hard.
Babs hoped she could find the room they were keeping him before it was too late. Lucius was probably giving them a fight, even if he was restrained. She peeked into the windows of rooms, trying to find something. Anything. Anyone.
At the end of the next hallway she shoved her way into one room, which seemed to be a meeting room with only chairs. Batgirl skidded to a stop seeing who was inside. A tall woman who seemed to be in a jester’s suit.
She turned with a curious look on her face. In her hands was… the largest hammer Barbara had ever seen in her life. Was it real? She hoped not.
Harley Quinn smiled and giggled. “Heya, Bat-lady!” She twirled the hammer as if weight nothing at all and crashed the end down onto the floor, cracking the material from the strike. Batgirl raised her fists and prepared herself. “Aw, you’re here fo’ Luscious Lucius ain’t ya? Well,” she laughed, twirled her hammer once and rested it over her shoulders with her arms upon the handle. “Guess you’ll hafta fight me! Hah! This’ll be fun, I think. Let’s have fun, okay?”
Batgirl didn’t grant her a response. She removed batarangs and ran at her.
“Ha ha! Oh, you don’t wanta waste any time! Good!”
Batgirl grinned and when Harley tried to swing, Batgirl slowed herself, letting the hammer swing past. Harley wasn’t ready for the lack of connection on her attack. Barbara stepped back and flung the batarangs, the sharp metal twirling, blurring through the air.
Harley flashed a smile and swung back with the hammer in a way Batgirl certainly didn’t expect. Such strength that she wouldn’t assume just by looking at her. The hammer knocked the projectiles out of the air and they clanged to the hard floor.
Batgirl backed away and took a more defensive approach against her strength. Though Harley could come back swinging, it was clear she was prone to slip ups. Barbara had to take a more careful approach. Exactly what she’s learned after all of her battles -- for her, straight on confrontation wasn’t what she could do, like how Batwing moved floors above. No. Tricks, diversion, stealth. She could do this.
She would do this.
Harley laughed and twirled, flipped and tossed her hammer with such skill, catching it again. “Okay,” she said. “Tuff one, I see.” She quickly became angry. “No one… is going to come between me and my Mistah J’s happiness. No one's gonna stop our plan, puddin’. So… just stand still and let it end!”
Barbara kept her distance, momentarily shocked by Harley’s aggression. The hammer swung, creating gusts of wind as it passed by Barbara’s face. One hit by that and she’d be splattered on the floor. Barbare leaned back, avoiding each swing. Followed by a jab. Harley growled and attacked. Barbara ducked, dodged and leaned forward with a jab to the jaw, the gut, the face. Barbara was back in the ring with Ted. His training has paid off. His lessons. And her growth through it all.
Harley was becoming angry and reckless. Good. Barbara could feel her leg bracers getting worked to their limits. But they would last. They would last. Harley came at her, growling, bleeding and Barbara ducked under her swing, landing on her hands, bringing up her legs and delivered two kicks to Harley’s head, before pushing off and shoving her down with a flip, landing on her body. Harley made a desperate sound for breath. She tried to move but Barbara kicked away her hammer and forced her up, restraining her in the wire she carried in her utility belt. Harley was chomping at her, writhing, pushing but it was no use, of course.
“NO! NOOOOO!” Harley was crying. Kicking and screaming. “This isn’t fair! This isn’t fair!! This can’t happen to me!!”
Barbara stopped and looked back at her with some pity. “Yeah,” she said. “You’ll learn to live with it.”
She hurried into the next room, feeling good about what she’d find. And sure enough, there was a room with come large computers where some goons were tormenting the poor man. Barbara pulled out a smoke bomb and prepared herself.
“Bartok!” she shouted. The drone flew forward and was working to alert Barbara of danger.
A dozen men were in the room. Holding crowbars, wrenches, pipes and all sorts of blunt objects. In tumbled the small orb through the gap in the door and the room was filled with smoke, nothing dangerous to breathe in, just to obscure vision. Still, they coughed, their minds assuming the worst. And in charged Barbara. She also couldn’t see -- but that’s where Bartok and her senses came in.
She bumped into bodies and took care of them swiftly. A beep and Barbara ducked, hearing the whoosh of some weapon swinging over her head frantically. She followed the found and brought the man down.
Lucius Fox clenched his eyes shut and held his breath, awaiting the worst. He could hear grunts and smacks and groans of pain.
Until they finished. Slowly, he opened his eyes to find his captors had all collapsed. And there was a girl on her knees, struggling to get up. Her knees wobbled and she tried to get to him.
“You’re safe now,” she said. She made her way to the chair and cut away his restraints with a batarang. “Come on, let’s get you --” she fell again and Lucius caught her. Barbara looked up at him, seeing how bruised and battered he was. But still he could move.
He smiled, holding her tightly. “Thank you.” He helped her up and threw her arm around his shoulder. “Now let me return the favor.”
“The money transfer,” Barbara grunted, getting to her feet, holding onto Lucius Fox for support. “Did they… did they get anything out of you? Did it go through?”
Lucius shook his head. One of his eyes were squinted shut from swollen flesh and his lips were bloody. “They got nothing out of me. The money is secure. We won’t let these criminals win.”
Barbara breathed a sigh of relief. And then inhaled a sharp breath when she tried to put her full weight on one leg. Despite her change in tactics she still had to push herself, and she had pushed a little too far.
“No worries,” Lucius said. “I can fight too. If… if I have to. We can call the authorities. The other Bats. We’ll get out of here safe and sound.” He held her tight and helped her through the doorway. Barbara admired his resolve. She recalled Bartok, her drone, and it secured itself firmly to her utility belt.
They moved through the halls until Batwing met them, out of breath, seeing Batgirl struggling to move.
“Is she okay? What’s wrong?”
Batgirl looked up and smiled. “I’m… fine. Just… getting a little help I guess.” It didn’t feel too bad to say aloud.
“She saved my life for all I know,” Lucius said, resolutely. “Now, help me get her out of here. And let’s get far away from this place.”

2020.11.19 13:45 kittehgoesmeow What A Day: GSA It Ain't So by Sarah Lazarus & Crooked Media (11/18/20)

"You're going to play gotcha questions with me?" - Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), asked if he thought Joe Biden won the election

Don't Wayne On My Parade

Eleven days after the election ended in decisive victory for Joe Biden, Republicans’ continued performance of uncertainty about the outcome is as appalling and dangerous as it is unrelentingly embarrassing.
Republicans might be blowing up democracy in slow-motion, but at least most of them aren’t pretending to agonize over it.
Each of Trump’s far-fetched coup maneuvers has flopped, but way too many Republicans have been happy to give them a whirl, and there’s no reason to think they wouldn’t try again in an election with closer margins. Whatever surreal elements of this year we eventually shove down the memory hole for our collective sanity, that fact can’t be one of them.

Look No Further Than The Crooked Media

On today's Keep It stream, Ira, Louis, and Aida discuss Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro's fervor over Harry Styles wearing a dress on the cover of Vogue: "The hilariousness of 'bring back manly men.' Where do you want them brought?" Watch and subscribe → youtube.com/crookedmedia

Under The Radar

Donald Trump just gave the worst possible job to a former speechwriter who was fired for having white nationalist ties. The White House dismissed Darren Beattie in 2018 after it came to light that he had spoken at a white-supremacist conference, back when that was something the Trump administration could still be shamed about. Beattie then took a bunch of taxpayer money from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), in a violation of House rules. Following that proud interlude, Trump has welcomed Beattie back into the administration fold with an appointment to the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad, which was established for the specific purpose of preserving the memory of Holocaust victims. Sixty-three days until the Inauguration.

What Else?

The official U.S. coronavirus death toll has surpassed 250,000, and more than three million people are estimated to be currently contagious. Doctors on the coronavirus task force warned Vice President Mike Pence that the U.S. could see an average of 2000 deaths a day by Christmas (Scott Atlas was presumably in the bathroom), and urged Pence or Trump to stress the importance of mitigation efforts from the White House podium.
Neither of them has any scheduled plans to do so, but White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany called statewide coronavirus restrictions “Orwellian,” if that’s helpful to anyone?
New York City’s public school system will shut down for in-person learning on Thursday (though bars, restaurants, and gyms are still open, lol), and Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) has joined a growing number of Republican governors in issuing a mask mandate for the first time. All straight out of Animal Farm.
The FAA has cleared Boeing’s 737 Max to resume flights, 20 months after grounding it following two fatal crashes and roughly 100 years before we will agree to step foot on one.
Trump has ordered the rushed withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, though not the total withdrawal he had campaigned on. According to one administration official, this is part of the White House’s galaxy brain strategy to light more fires than Biden can put out.
Well, here’s unelected Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) violating Senate ethics rules by soliciting donations from a federal office building. Let’s send her home, yes?
Donald Trump was terrified he would be cut in half by lasers at the opening of his Atlantic City casino in 1990, while “Eye of the Tiger” was blasting over the loudspeakers. Just a nice little image to carry close to your heart.
Rockefeller Center’s bummer of a Christmas tree has been widely deemed a metaphor for 2020. The tree’s resident owl who was just minding his own business before getting dragged into midtown can confirm.

Be Smarter

One of the biggest takeaways from this election has been “Latino voters are not a monolith,” and while much of that analysis has focused on Florida, it’s just as true everywhere else. In Texas, Trump became the first GOP presidential candidate in a century to win Zapata County, which is more than 94 percent Hispanic or Latino. Dissecting the result the requires understanding the specific character of South Texas, where most Spanish-speaking residents self-identify as Tejano. Most consider themselves American above all else, wouldn’t identify as people of color, and have positions on gas and oil, guns, and abortion that are closely aligned with the Republican Party. The Trump campaign recognized and effectively targeted that specific community, and Democrats will need more than generic messaging to win it back.
